I recorded a decent portion of this song, especially the drums, at my sister-in-law's house in Saugerties, NY, on a property adjacent to a property adjacent to a property adjacent to Big Pink.
lyrics
Getting punched by your big sister was the most fun I could afford.
I was eight. She was eleven. The first girl I ever adored.
She was tough and she was cool,
And she wasn’t afraid to make noise.
Before the makeup, before the hair,
Before the lectures in poise.
Before, before, before the boys.
Before, before, before the boys.
Muddy knees and a bloody lip the day she turned self-sabotaging,
A well-meaning grandma pulled her aside and said, “Girl, don’t you know boys are watching?”
She was tough and she was cool,
And she wasn’t afraid to make noise.
Before the makeup, before the hair,
Before the laborious ploys.
Before, before, before the boys.
Before, before, before the boys.
She gave me a sneer, but it wasn’t the same. She picked up her bike and rode home,
Pedaling slowly, eyes straight ahead, cursing her X chromosome.
She was tough and she was cool,
And she wasn’t afraid to make noise.
Before the doubt, before the shame,
Before the head full of noise.
Before, before, before the boys.
Before, before, before the boys.
Before the question that followed her home
In a tired old grandmother’s voice:
Who do you want to be—
Be for the boys?
Be for, be for, be for the boys?
Who do you want to be—
Be for the boys?

I can't pick a favorite. All good. I tend to favor Shadows in the Dark, it to me is the "hit" but PP&F reminds me of an obscure Doors song and I dig that. So there. AMS Radio
